Obligatory Author’s Note: This list and ranking is purely based upon my educated guesses, observations, and conjecture about the nations of the galaxy. This list is NOT a ‘final say’ on how strong any particular nation is, and is open to reinterpretation, adjustment, and discussion. (I would love to talk more about details that I either get wrong or don’t know the full story of). I will still uphold these rankings as my personal outlook, with some details may-or-may-not being up for debate.

These major categories classify nations based on brackets of strength. Starting with the Hyperpowers and Superpowers and ending with the Minor Powers and Emergents. The list is relative, so a Major Power which is one entry above another Major Power will be considered stronger, at least slightly. There can only be three Superpowers and five Major Powers in the galaxy at any one time.
The three ‘hard’ factors taken into account are a nation’s Military, Economy, and Influence. These factors are rated out of a total of 10 points, with the scale being somewhat logarithmic (in other words, a nation with a category score of 4 is MORE than twice as powerful than one with a score of 2, etc). Beyond these three key factors, other non-tangibles are also taken into account to determine a nation’s ultimate ranking. The following three ‘key factors’ are further defined below:
⚔️ Military: This rates how powerful a nation’s armed forces are. Larger fleets, more powerful ships, combat experience, and many other smaller factors make up a nation’s military score. This metric counts up both a nation’s star fleets and ground forces - a strong score in both is necessary to reach the highest echelons of score. Force projection outside of a nation’s borders as well as the ability to defend the homefront are equally important.
📊 Economy: The economy of a nation is defined by how ‘productive’ it is. This includes potential industry, trade, services, presence on the galactic market, internal economic situation, and many other factors. This metric is the most ambiguous of the three, as a nation’s internal economics tend to be extremely complex, even for hive-minds and machine empires.
🌐 Influence: A nation’s ability to shape the galaxy around it. A nation can become influential if it exerts the ability or possesses the ability to dramatically alter the current state of the galaxy. Presence in the InterStellar Forum, laying claim to vassal states, projecting force through arms, and having diplomatic agreements are some of the many methods which a nation can become influential.
Hyperpowers are truly leviathan galactic civilizations. Their power is felt and known by all, and their impact on the galaxy is unparalleled. They eclipse every other nation in most or all fields of relevance, and can only be challenged by the actions of many nations working in unison. They are the undisputed rulers of their region of space. It is not unlikely that hyperpowers have managed to achieve extragalactic travel and colonization.
Currently, no nation in Garellia has achieved the rank of Hyperpower.
Superpowers are incredibly powerful civilizations which excel in all three major categories. Superpowers exert tremendous influence on civilizations around them, and tend to be the chief rulers of their sector of space. Their military, economy, and political power make them a true force to be reckoned with. While they can still be put under threat from alliances of smaller nations, superpowers dictate the balance of power in Garellia.
